Thomas Collier RI
Thomas Collier RI 1840-1891
Thomas Collier was a Victorian landscape artist best known for his watercolours but also an occasional painter in oils. He attended Manchester School of Art and first exhibited at the Society of British Artists in 1863. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) in 1870 and a full member two years thereafter. Collier was the subject of a monogragh in 1944 by Adrian Bury and was hailed by a critic as “one of the supreme watercolour painters of England”. He lived the later part of his life in Hampstead and exhibited four works at the Royal Academy and eighty at the RI during his career.
